Everything about this radio is unique from the cabinet styling to the “fire” stain work. The cabinet is actually black maple and it provides some graceful grain patterns that flow like flame itself. Construction of this particular cabinet’s frame was challenging as was the bending of the sides/top for it. Such complex bends requires very careful work but it has to be done in rather a hurry. My frames are made of cabinet grade Baltic birch for strength and consistency. Its tight no-holes lamination hold screws as well as solid wood.
There was just enough room for a big 1625 tube and its standoffs in the exact middle of the floor. Even so, notches had to be cut into the side of the 365 variable capacitors frame to make it all fit. I have yet to build a radio where space did not eventually become a major issue. But there was room for the 10K regeneration control pot and a small amplifier and speaker. All of my 1625 tube radios come with 12vdc wall wart transformers so there are never dangerous voltages or currents to be concerned with. And no headphones are required with this one either….just an antenna and ground connection.
