Additional efforts to create tube radios without destroying an expensive wood cabinet has produced this EM83 style. The clear plexiglass enclosure allows 180 degree viewing of the tube and the twin beacons face straight ahead. It kind of reminds me of the old passenger train cars that were positioned at the end of the train so that politicians could give speeches at every stop. One of the beacons vacillates with the tuning of strong signals and the other does so with voice/music modulation.
This cabinet was stained with red mahogany tinted alcohol and was then tinted and finally finished with satin nitrocellulose lacquer. The set includes an amplifier and speaker so all one needs is an antenna and a ground source.
This would make a remarkable unique gift or addition to anyone’s collection.
