This cute little buggar was inspired by that beautiful 'Diamond-Weave" coil made from green Krynar wire. I developed a winding frame for this style of coil which has 110 pins and is only 2" in diameter. Needless to say small fingers are definitely needed here. This particular coil was wound by a friend of mine named John Bruckner. John is probably close to being blind now as I just received another one of these beauties from him. I hope not because these coils are murder to wind.
That green coil just screamed for a tube with green lights so the EM83 Magic Eye tube was a natural. It is the same tube that is featured in the "Winking Wedge" set and operates the came way. I built a power supply to run the set with 150 VDC and 6.3 VAC for the filament. Banana binding posts are mounted on the rear panel for the power connections as are the brass binding posts for antenna and ground.
This is not a regenerative radio but it does include a volume control since it can be a little loud for a good headset. Top, sides and both knobs are made from solid Mahogany specially stained, shaded and finished with flat lacquer. Front and rear panels are black acrylic plate.
The radio works well but I have more fun watching the tube perform than I do any of the programs coming in. Please e-mail me for price and availability.
